Birth & postpartum doula

Doula care

A doula is a trained companion who gives you continuous emotional, physical and informational support before, during and after birth. Not medical care. Steady, knowledgeable presence.

How it works

From hello to home with baby

  1. 1

    A free meet & greet

This is a chance for me to introduce myself and for you to see whether I’m the right fit for your family. I know I’m not the right fit for everyone. If I’m not, I’ll try to help you find someone who is.

  2. 2

    At least two prenatal visits

We talk through comfort measures, birthing positions and your birth plan. This is where I get to know you and learn what matters most to you. What helps you feel calm when you’re stressed?

  3. 3

    Support while you wait

Once you hire me, I am on standby for any question or need as you prepare for birth: phone calls, texts and email.

  4. 4

    Labor & birth

I’m available whenever you’re ready for me, including at home in early labor, and I stay with you continuously at your birthplace.

  5. 5

    After your baby arrives

Help with your baby’s first feeding, a postpartum follow-up visit, breastfeeding support, referrals to trusted community resources, and phone, text and email support for six weeks.

As your doula, I will

  • Be available whenever you are ready for me, including at home during early labor
  • Stay with you continuously at your birthplace: hospital, birth center or home
  • Share evidence-based information so you can make informed, confident decisions
  • Support your partner, so they can focus on you and step out when they need to
  • Help with your baby’s first feeding and with breastfeeding
  • Visit after the birth and stay reachable for six weeks
  • Point you to trusted community resources when you need more support

As a doula, I don’t

  • Perform clinical or medical tasks
  • Make decisions for you
  • Speak to your care team on your behalf
  • Project my own beliefs onto your experience

Your doctor or midwife handles your medical care. I make sure you understand your options and feel supported in the choices you make.

Investment

What it costs

Every family needs something a little different, so pricing depends on the support you’d like. We’ll talk it through at your free meet & greet, with no pressure either way.

If cost is a worry, please still reach out. Making doula care possible for more families is a big part of why JAHKAH exists.
